It was 19 degrees out this moring when I ran todays first load of laugndry. I’m sure I am not alone in saying, “I miss dryer sheets!”. This mornings laundry consisted of a bulky sherpa lined wearable blanket, a heavy robe, and a couple pair of sweatpants (don’t judge, it’s been a cold week). Yes; I had my hair pulled back in a pony, sleeves rolled, and was already cringing before I even opened the dryer door. I can’t lie, the thought of that much static scares me! I have tried so many brands of vegan sheets. I’ve purchased the paper ones and the fabric ones, tried the tin-foil balls, liquid softener, vinegar, baking soda, and actual tears. Nothing has helped enough to make it worth the cost.
Today, with 19 degree temps, I carefully pulled that wonderful warm sherpa ‘slanket’ from the dryer expecting my normal and painful light show. I am elated to say, I didn’t receive even a single tiny spark.
I (obviously) can’t guarantee this will work for everyone, but I can say that it is working for me! It’s AGS friendly, clean, cheap, and you to choose the scent (or lack thereof)!
Here is what I used:
Glass spray bottle – Such as these with a silicone sleeve and labels. If you are like me and learn to enjoy making many of your own household solutions, you are going to need labels!
1 cup distilled water
1/4 cup witch hazel – I prefer Thayers or Dickenson
2 Tbs white vinegar
Optional
10-20 drops of Lavender EO – I started with this Cliganic set and found the scent combination that worked for me. After I figured that out, I started ordering larger bottles of the ones I used most, including this Lavender.
5-10 drops of Orange EO – This is my favorite orange E.O. from Cliganic. Their oils are organic (and vegan) making them a perfect addition to an AGS home.
3-7 drops of Lemongrass EO – Cliganic Lemongrass is not only one of my favorites to add to my laundry combination, but I also enjoy adding a drop or two to my washable vacuum filter.
Add witch hazel, vinegar, and E.O.’s to a glass spray bottle. Cover and shake to mix.
Add Water, cover, and shake again.
Option 1: Lightly spray wet clothing before putting into the dryer.
Option 2: Lightly mist clothes as you take them out of the dryer.
Option 3: Spray a couple t-shirts, rags, or reusable fabric dryer sheets with the spray and add to the dryer with wet clothes.
Please be cautious, some of these ingredients may be flammable. I always recommend reading the MSDS sheet and making an informed decision.
I have not had a problem with any staining, however, essential oils are an oil and can spot on some fabrics. Check an inconspicuous area of clothing if needed.
